Ancient Greece: The Cradle of Civilization Part-2

During the V and IV centuries BC, the cities of Athens and Sparta were to become the largest and most powerful. These two cities took very different paths. While Sparta conquered neighboring territories by force and which had a large army, Athens made it through dialogue and peaceful ways.

The first major threat to the Greek territories meant the Persians, which was formed before the famous Delian League, which brought together all state cities, including Athens and Sparta. After completing the so-called “War Medicine”, Athens became the largest city of Greece, establishing democracy in the hands of Pericles. It is from this period in which to build the Parthenon, Erection, other large buildings and begins a great time characterized by a high degree of artistic sensibility and philosophy. The rivalry between Sparta and Athens, had not yet finished. It is well that begins the Peloponnesian War, which concluded with the victory of Sparta in 404 BC After the confusion and weakness of both sides, the Macedonian empire with Philip II as king, used the situation to annex its territory Athens and Thebes.

On the death of Philip II, his son Alexander, later known as Alexander the Great took command and led the Greek people to reach their peak in terms of territory, defeating the Persians and reaching even to Egypt and India. After the death of Alexander, his generals would share their possessions. That would be the end of the great ancient Greece.
