Athens in a destination that deserves at least three or four days. Many say that Athens is not the most beautiful city in Greece, perhaps because the capital and be more crowded. Athens is a beautiful city, the only problem is that the bucolic seaside towns are strong competitors in appeal.

If we are cosmopolitan and we like the hustle and purely Mediterranean environment, probably enjoy in Athens. Syntagma Square is one of the people with over the weekend, as it is a terrace area and meeting place for tourists. Essential walk from the plaza to the Acropolis, which is recommended to visit early to avoid queues of tourists and to contemplate with the entire state of Olympian Zeus.

The most typical district of Athens is the Plaka, the most touristic as well, and from where you can take the funicular to Mount Likavitos, so you can enjoy beautiful views of the city of Athens.

After the 2004 Olympic Games, Athens regained the lost fame, fame that almost became a bad reputation because of the smoke and the streets full of traffic and people. Athens has changed a lot over the years, where now the tourist can communicate easily in English, find parks filled with trees and very clean and very modern infrastructure with which to reach any part of the city very quickly.

The hearth of western civilization, you will want to make your visit to Athens enjoyable. Be prepared to walk. Enjoy the museums and local markets, and visit the plaka. The Euro is the currency used in Greece. Banks and ATM machines can be found on almost every major street in Athens.

Transportation
1. Arriving at the Athens International Airport approximately 17 miles northeast of Athens, you can take public transportation to one of central Athens’ two terminals.

If you plan on driving, you will need an international license, but you can travel by bus throughout the city.

Tickets can be purchased at kiosks or ticket booths near the main stops. Within the city, there is also a metro system that will quickly take you to various destinations within Athens. Walking, however, will give you the opportunity to see the different aspects of the city.

Food
2. Although breakfast and lunch are not considered main meals, to enjoy the full flavor of Athens, order a coffee or wine, such as retsina, at one of the establishments in the plaka, and enjoy the atmosphere. (more…)
