Monday, May 2nd, 2011Orf? is located in northwestern Greece. It is the capital of the island and prefecture of Corfu. The city is an important tourist center in Greece and has played a valuable role since the eighth century. Has become known as Kastropolis, due to its three castles.

In 2007, the old town was inscribed by UNESCO in the list of World Heritage. The Municipality of Corfu stretches in a northwest direction from the city in the central eastern coast of the island and covers an area of 41,905 km2 and a population of 39,487 inhabitants.
The old fortifications were largely destroyed by the British in the nineteenth century. You can find houses of the Venetian era, with some traces of its past glory. But they are few compared with the British neoclassical houses of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The palace, built in 1815 by Sir Thomas Maitland is a great white Maltese stone structure. About Gasturi Achilleion stands the Pompeian style, the palace built for Empress Elizabeth of Austria and acquired in 1907 by the German Emperor Wilhelm II.
