Anyone wanting to head to a sun-kissed beach or for a cultural break in the Mediterranean can find everything they are looking for in Greece.

Nestled beneath Albania and Macedonia, the Greek mainland is flanked by around 6000 islands, 227 of which are inhabited. The peak tourist season in Greece tends to last from May to September, which makes it a popular destination for Brits seeking a summer break.

Athens
Greece’s bustling capital city is renowned for its historical sites with the ancient Acropolis and its museum among the most visited attractions.

Named after the goddess Athena, Athens is one of the oldest cities in Europe and is known as the birthplace of democracy.

It is the perfect place to enjoy a meal in an outdoor cafe while soaking up the atmosphere or to take a stroll along the promenade which links the main archaeological sites.

Corfu

Corfu is one of the more cosmopolitan Greek islands and is popular with tourists. It is set in the Ionian Sea and boasts Venetian style architecture and picturesque villages.

The largest town on the island, Corfu Town, is noted for its lively nightlife. The island is also known as Kerkyra by the locals and is home to two fortresses which helped to protect it from pirates in medieval times. (more…)
