Discovering Thessaloniki

The city stands at the mouth of the river plain formed by Aliakmon Gallikos and Axios, which flow into the Gulf Thermaic. Thessaloniki is located at the end of the valley of Adrar, located on the Via Egnatia connecting the Acropolis to the coast. It can also be reached by road from Thessaloniki in the Adriatic, like the Via Egnatia and those from the Balkans. Therefore it becomes the most important port in Macedonia.

Preserves the remains of the walls of the Hellenistic period. On the slopes and the bottom is the old Turkish city, destroyed in 1917, was rebuilt and retains great monuments, such as Byzantine churches and the arch of Galerius, which are constantly visited by tourists.

Thessaloniki also has a tradition in the sport. In the city there are clubs gymnasiums, including Aris Thessaloniki, Iraklis Thessaloniki PAOK Thessaloniki. Also have their football teams, FC Aris Thessaloniki, Iraklis Thessaloniki FC PAOK Thessaloniki. They play in Vikelides Kleanthis Stadium, the stadium and the stadium Kaftantzoglio Tomb respectively.

The artistic and archaeological wealth was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 under the name early Christian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki and in 1997 for being the European Capital of Culture.

Thessaloniki is also known for being a city university preferably as it rotates around the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Macedonia.

As for food, Thessaloniki is the place where they invented the famous Café frappé. As for the film, every year the city is done in the Thessaloniki International Film Festival
