The Island of Syros

The island of Syros is an important commercial and cultural center of Greece. It combines an elegant character and numerous historical and archaeological monuments with beautiful nature that include beaches, landscapes and charming villages.

The architecture of the Syrians but shares the characteristics of the Cyclades architecture has its own peculiarities arising from the Venetian rule the island and the rest of the Cyclades during the Middle Ages. During the Venetian occupation the majority of the population converted to Catholicism as Syrians preserved, at present, a large percentage of Catholics compared to the rest of Greece, mostly Orthodox country.

How To Get To Greece

By Air

Greece has 16 international airports and has links to all major European cities. A large number of Aegean islands have airports. From Spain there are flights from Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Alicante, Malaga, Mallorca, Vigo, Seville, Minorca, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Vitoria, Santander, Pamplona and Gerona to Athens.

Overland

By car it is necessary to reach half of Europe through Greece. From Barcelona there are approximately 2,500 kilometers. Trains passing through Hungary and Bulgaria.

By sea

Greek Islands III

The other important islands are:

* The Big Island of Crete. Crete is the largest island in Greece, and is therefore divided into central Crete, Crete east and west Crete. Crete requires more time than the other islands to be explored, and is really missed. It is noteworthy that the north of Crete is inhabited, while the south is practically virgin. A true paradise.

* The Sporades Islands and the large island of Evia. These islands are far from the tourist circuits, lpor in them which you can enjoy idyllic scenery and very quiet. Pins are pine forests and eucalyptus groves. Sporades Greek islands are Skiathos (Skiathos), Escopelos (Skopelos), Alonisos (Alonissos), Skyros (Skyros Eskiros or).

* The Northern Aegean Islands
. Mass tourism has not been targeted this group of islands located in the northern Aegean Sea, which allows to keep intact its tradition and beauty. This archipelago consists of islands and Ikaria, Lesvos, Limnos, Samos and Chios.
