Visit Patras in Greece

It is the third largest city in Greece, regarded as the political, economic, administrative and cultural life of the west of this country. Patras, a cosmopolitan Mediterranean city located on the north coast of the Peloponnese, about 215 km west of Athens, possessing an extensive history spanning four millennia, and one of the most important commercial ports in Greece. During the 2006 was chosen as European Capital of Culture.
In the past it was one of the twelve cities of the Second Achaean League. It was under Roman rule first and then Venice, during the second century BC, when it became the thriving port and trading center. It was also one of the main centers of Christianity.
The city has two public universities and one technical institute, attended by a large number of students, thus becoming a center of science and technology in the field of education. Patras Carnival is renowned for its main features satirical floats a large and extravagant balls and parades.
Today, Patras is a major tourist center for its beautiful turquoise blue sea, the promenade, archaeological remains, and its pleasant climate as generally happens in the Mediterranean.
